Rafael Gallaher If you fall asleep while listening to this record, it will give you nightmares. Favorite track: It Was Beautiful but Now It's Sour.

Shepard With Rest, Rwake continue to masterfully channel the humid, grimy despair inherent in the southern United States. Themes of God, Satan, dreams, ghosts, and wife-beating can be heard swirling under the hypnotic heaviness of their music. I feel dirty after listening to this album, which is a good thing. Favorite track: The Culling.

about

Arkansas’ backwoods doomsayers RWAKE awaken from their slumber and unleash their long-awaited new album Rest. Their first new material in over 4 years, Rest is less a set of songs than a perpetually evolving, deeply emotional set of missives heralding the end of times. Rest is nothing short of epic, and not only one of 2011’s finest albums but one of the finest progressive/doom/sludge metal records ever.
